“I still remember my first day as a stepping stone into adulthood…”
Shortly after entering the industry 10 years ago, I took the leap and enrolled in the hair design program at the HDC. I still remember my first day as a stepping stone into adulthood, giving me confidence, patience and probably what I needed most – maturity.
Along with balancing academics and learning practical skills, the greatest skill you may be surprised to leave HDC with is the level of communication and soft skills you will acquire. These skills are beyond valuable and transferrable to any career. My time working as a stylist has been an incredibly rewarding chapter of my journey so far. Employment in a salon and spa can offer you the ability to share your talent, control your income, and work flexible hours.
“There will be a moment in this career that you realize you’re a “lifer” – that moment when you realize this industry is running through your blood.”
After years working behind the chair, I decided I wanted to expand my resume. I took a quick hiatus from life as I knew it to study marketing. However, not long after finishing my studies and dabbling in some other industries, I found myself right back where I had started – at HDC, but this time as an educator and business building coach. There will be a moment in this career that you realize you’re a “lifer” – that moment when you realize this industry is running through your blood. For me, retuning to HDC was this moment. The values that were instilled in me from my time at HDC and Salon Resource Group are the same values that led me to where I am today, as the business consultant to Atlantic Canada for the number one choice for skin care professionals worldwide, Dermalogica.
Maybe you are considering starting your career with HDC, or perhaps you are looking to make a career change in this direction. I encourage you to see all of the opportunity this industry has to offer. Furthering your education with HDC will open many doors for you. This could be as: a professional skin therapist or stylist, an educator, a platform artist, a member of a salon management team, a business owner, salon consultant and the list goes on – how exciting!
For those who choose to embark on the journey of professional skin care with HDC – I can’t wait to meet you and introduce you to Dermalogica culture! As a student at a Dermalogica partnership school, HDC will teach you Dermalogica core concepts such as Face Mapping® and Face Fit, which will arm you with the skills to grow your business and income at an above average rate.
I speak from experience when I say; the level of education that HDC has to offer is truly outstanding.
“Let the team at HDC help you find your dream job upon graduation”
After graduation, I encourage you to never stop learning. Let the team at HDC help you find your dream job upon graduation. Working with a Dermalogica skin centre will open up a world of opportunity – such as, free education, working with results oriented and innovative products and an amazing tribe to network with. Furthermore, show your dedication to your craft by taking part of the rewarding Dermalogica Expert Program. Did I mention other perks such as free products!?
Good luck on your journey! I can’t wait to meet you at HDC.
